Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s movie ‘Animal’ is generating buzz in theaters. Having amassed over Rs 700 crore globally in just 10 days, it stands as one of this year’s major hits. Fans of Ranbir Kapoor are now anticipating the film to soon surpass the Rs 1000 crore milestone, akin to blockbuster movies like ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Pathan.’

Conversely, there is criticism surrounding ‘Animal.’ Some label Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film as ‘anti-women,’ suggesting that certain scenes convey inappropriate messages. It is claimed that ‘Animal’ proudly showcases mistreatment of women and toxic masculinity. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has shared his viewpoint on ‘Animal,’ asserting that, according to him, Ranbir’s film has its merits.

Anurag, speaking at the Kolkata International Film Festival, expressed that responsibility cannot be forced upon individuals. He emphasized that people are either inherently responsible or not. Anurag questioned the perception of feminist films, stating that only a handful of viewers decide whether a film is genuinely feminist or merely pretending. He argued that ‘Animal’ has sparked more feminist discussions and conversations on misogyny than any other film, implying a positive impact.

Anurag contended that ‘Animal’ is contributing to people’s understanding of feminism, acknowledging the value of provocation. He emphasized the need for provocation to foster comprehension, asserting that the ongoing discussions about ‘Animal’ have educated more individuals about feminism. Anurag encouraged embracing provocation, stating that being provoked is a positive force.

As a filmmaker, Anurag revealed that he strives to create films that unsettle viewers. He shared that during the making of ‘Ugly,’ his aim was to leave the audience unable to sleep at night, highlighting the power of discomfort in storytelling.
